Music Ministry

St. Francis of Assisi has a vibrant and talented music ministry that brings the best of liturgical music to our celebration of the Mass, guiding the faithful and enhancing the experience of the liturgy. Music is carefully selected to foster the congregation’s vocal and spiritual participation as well as amplify and elaborate upon the themes of the propers and the readings for the day. Music at St. Francis is committed to the highest standard, motivated by the belief that through our music we return to God the gifts entrusted to us.

The St. Francis Parish Choir is a volunteer ensemble of mixed adult voices which sings for the 9:30 Sunday Masses from Labor Day through Corpus Christi, as well as holy days and special liturgies throughout the year. The SFA Choir rehearses on Wednesday nights and sings from the week after Labor Day through Corpus Christi each year.

Cantors and Psalmists lead the congregation in sung prayer at the 4:30 Saturday Masses and join with the choir at the 9:30 Sunday Mass.

The choirs of St. Francis are frequently joined by guest instrumentalists for special ceremonies, Masses, and events throughout the year.

The music at St. Francis of Assisi is led by our beautiful Noack tracker organ, Op. 105, a Steinway grand piano (both in the nave) and a 3-manual Allen MDS81-S hybrid organ in the loft.

The St. Clare Treble Chorus is SFA’s children’s chorus and is comprised mainly, but not exclusively, of students of SFA school.

The Treble Chorus rehearses weekly after school and sings around every 4-6 weeks at weekend Masses and for holy days throughout the school year.

Rehearsals employ concepts from the Kodaly and Ward methods, giving the choristers a deep understanding for and appreciation of the music they are preparing while also being fun and fast-paced.

Patrick Valentino (CAGO) is the Music Director of St. Francis of Assisi. Originally from New Jersey, Patrick worked in the Boston area for nearly two decades before moving his family to Kentucky. Trained as a composer and conductor, Patrick started directing church music in graduate school and since has established a reputation for growing music ministries both in size and quality. In addition to directing, he composes music for the church, leads workshops and masterclasses, and performs longform improvisation and film accompaniment.

St. Francis music ensembles are mostly volunteer - anyone interested in joining or learning more should contact Patrick at pvalentino@ccsfa.org

The Modern Music Ensemble leads our Sunday 5pm Mass. This Mass includes modern worship music utilizing guitar, bass, piano, drums, and vocals.

These songs are often recognizable by the assembly and easy to sing, increasing participation and leading those present into worship and ultimately preparing our hearts to receive our Lord, fully present in the Eucharist.
